The Annual Sacred Sports Foundation Easter Camp held in Soufriere, between 8th and 12th April this year is entitled “Goals Matter – developing a greater understanding of SDGs. The Easter Camp brings together participants from Sacred Sports Foundation’s USAID-funded Beyond the Bell After School programme encompassing children between the ages of 11 to 15 from the Bruce Ville community and participants in their Soufriere After School programme. Some 60 kids in total are participating and each day the camp’s activities are designed to showcase various development goals.

At the start of the camp, the children were divided equally into four teams, each representing and reflecting a sustainable development goal namely Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, Goal 4 – Quality Education, Goal 5 – Gender Equality, and Goal 8 – Good Jobs & Economic Growth. Following a lively discussion on the chosen topic, youth mentors assisted the children in designing banners for the march past the Soufriere stadium stands and official camp launch.

Throughout the week the teams compete against each other in SDG learning activities and games, which are scored, with points awarded not just for winning and losing but also for a range of criteria including conduct, teamwork and sportsmanship.

We are happy to share some of the photos from the activity. Let us imitate these fine examples and play our part in Saint Lucia’s sustainable development.
