World Population Day (WPD) is observed on 11th July every year. On WPD, businesses, civil society organisations, and government agencies seek to raise awareness on various population issues that affect countries around the world, such as the importance of family planning, including gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.

The theme for 2017  observation is “Family Planning: Empowering People, Developing Nations.”

This year’s celebrations coincides with the Family Planning Summit, the second meeting of the Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) initiative, which will focus on four key issues: innovative financing models for procuring and delivering high-quality contraceptives; strengthening supply chains and expanding the range of contraceptives available to women; empowering young people with access to family planning information and care; and reaching the hardest to reach, such as women in humanitarian crises or facing cultural barriers.

Visit the Saint Lucia Planned Parenthood Association on 21 Jeremie Street, Castries,  to learn more about family planning and what you can do to help with Saint Lucia’s population issues.
